Why You’ll Fall In Love With These Worksheets (whether you’re using a printed copy, or using them as iPad lettering practice sheets):
These worksheets use arrows to indicate both direction and pressure. No more confusion about when to press down or let up (a signature part of every worksheet).
Watch as your new hobby becomes a practiced skill that will save you trips to the card aisle and home decor section.
Lettering should be fun and rewarding, not intimidating and overwhelming. I’ve refined these worksheets to be as uncomplicated and straightforward as possible.
*This is a new and improved version of my old Serif Lettering Worksheet. If you purchased that guide in the past and are considering purchasing this one as well, please consider the fact that they are similar. Although this worksheet encompasses everything I’ve learned since creating those first worksheets and better reflects my own lettering abilities and worksheet creation skills, the content of this worksheet and the old Serif Lettering Worksheet are similar given that they are based on the same lettering style. If you have any questions regarding this, please send me an email (email@example.com)!
The Process from Start to Finish
01. Get the technique down
Once you’ve purchased the worksheets, trace and trace to your heart’s content. Print them out (or not) and practice your chosen lettering style(s) until you feel you’ve got the hang of it. The numbers tell you where to start while thick and thin arrows indicate how much pressure to add, and therefore how thick the strokes will be.
02. Choose the right lettering tools
They say an artist is only as good as their tools… which is somewhat true! Once you’ve got the technique down, a good brush pen can definitely impact the precision of your strokes and the vibrance of your final project. My favorite large brush pen is the Tombow Dual Brush Pens and my go-to small brush pen is definitely the Tombow Fudenosuke Brush Pens.
03. Your canvas
When I first started lettering, I assumed the heavier the paper, the better. But, I was all wrong. Rougher paper could end up fraying your brush pens, ruining their delicate tips as a result. Printer paper is the way to go for worksheets, especially with brush pen lettering. I recommend using simple printer paper, but my favorite is Astrobrights 28lb printer paper.
Why Lovable Letters?
Education is important to me, so each lettering guide has been made with all skill levels in mind, from first-time letterers to practiced artists.
Step by step
The worksheets I have created include simple instructions, with arrows that indicate not only direction, but also the pressure needed to successfully create a beautiful calligraphy effect with bold and delicate lines for that true wow factor.
Lettering should be as uncomplicated as possible; that's why my worksheets are straightforward and easy to follow so you can embrace the satisfaction of learning a new skill. More fun than fret.
Where can I download my worksheet after purchase?
Once your payment is confirmed, you’ll be sent two files: a PDF and a .zip file containing individual JPEGS. These can be accessed through email (sent from Etsy) or in the ‘Purchases & Reviews’ section of your Etsy account. Download these to your device and get lettering!
How should I print it?
I recommend printing the worksheets on individual sheets of paper, or printing out just the pages you want to practice on for a more eco-friendly approach. If you print double-sided, there is a chance the ink from your brush pen will bleed through to the other side. But, if you really want to save paper, simply use lighter colored brush pens and print double sided. This way, you can see every stroke with perfect clarity.
How many times can I print my worksheet after purchase?
As many times as you want! Lettering is all about practice and patience, so once you’ve purchased your worksheet you can print as many copies for your personal use as you would like to continue practicing and watch as your skills evolve.
Are the files shareable?
These products were created by Lovable Letters for your personal use. Please do not share the digital files or printed copies. Instead, simply share the link you purchased from so your friends can learn to letter, too, without breaking copyright laws.
Can I use these lettering techniques for my own small business?
These skills are all yours to craft and create with. Whether it's for a birthday card to your best friend, or a new product for your small business, how you use your new lettering skills is completely up to you! However, you may not use this product for commercial use or claim it as your own.
